Mercedes was my first Golden. In a short
amount of time "she owned me". She was a gentle spirited girl, who loved everyone.
She was clever and quick to learn. She measured 22 1/2 inches - at the withers, and weighed in at 65 lbs.
Her coat was thick and full, in a red-copper colour.
Mercedes was born May 21, 1993 and has had four litters of puppies.
Mercedes was my first Golden and took me to many obedience classes
trying to train me, and ultimately into the area of raising and showing puppies.
She enjoyed her retirement this past few years, as matriarch of the household, she was content to stay in the warm or air-conditioned
house and go for walks with us but NEVER to sleep in the kennel with the other dogs.
She was above that and would tell you so.
Mercedes ruled the house,
followed me from room to room and slept beside the bed every night.
Tammy Gasal of Jamestown, N.D. bred Mercedes. She was a very special dog who KNEW my Mom couldn’t see, and led her to the door
by taking her hand in her mouth, ever so gently…She also KNEW
when my Dad was having heart trouble and would place her head in his lap
and encourage him to stay put until help arrived.
She laid across him once when he collapsed in the yard, barking to
attract the neighbors’ attention and needed to be lifted off of him when EMS arrived.
She can never be replaced and remains in my heart always.
She now rests on the hills she use to roam, overlooking our family…watching us as she always did.
